Saxophonist Manohari Singh passed away on July 13th of cardiac arrest. He appeared on Indian Idol a couple weeks ago with Asha Bhosle, where she stated that Manohari was R.D. Burman's right hand. He was with Burman from his first song to his death. He seemed healthy and gave amazing performances on Indian Idol. Just a few weeks later, he passed away at the age of 79. R.I.P Manohari Singh.

I cannot embed it, but check it out! The movie that we've been waiting for is about to come in theaters. This is the movie that Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor broke up during, and so the film was on hold for a few years. The trailers show Kareena before her size 0 image with the straight, long hair and Shahid before his muscular, more mature look with the long hair (and then short hair again). Now my question is: how much of the film was shot before the break up? Is there a gap in the movie of a few years so the new looks are of older people? Or do they give Shahid and Kareena makeovers to make them look younger and closer to how they did when the movie started to just continue the film from where it left off? I guess we'll have to wait and watch...

Mac Mohan, best known as Sambha from Sholay, passed away earlier today. We will all surely miss him.

The irony of life is that while this dialogue happens to be immortal, the mortal 'Sambha' in question, passed away yesterday, as he lost his battle to the dreaded cancer.

Mohan and he remained famous for his most stylish beard even then. Having started his 'Bollywood ka safar' with the film Haqeeqat in the year 1964, Mac Mohan acted in over 190 films over a period of a whopping 46 years.

Some of the most prominent films in which he acted include Don, Sholay, Karz, Satte Pe Satta, Zanjeer, Rafoo Chakkar, Shaan... to name a few. His last film was Bombay To Goa: Laughter Unlimited, and he also did a cameo after that in Luck By Chance. Very few people know the fact that, besides being one of the finest actors, Mac Mohan also happens to be the maternal uncle of Raveena Tandon.

The makers of Heyy Babyy brought us Housefull. Ritesh Deshmukh, Akshay Kumar, and Boman Irani are together again! The story is of a man, Akshay Kumar, who is unlucky for everyone he is around, including himself. He was once told though that his kundali says that his bad luck will end once he marries the girl he loves. No girl he meets really loves him back enough to marry him though, until he meets Deepika Padukone. Ritesh Deshmukh plays Akshay Kumar's best friend, who always accepts Akshay Kumar's bad luck in a positive manner. Lara Dutta plays Ritesh's wife.

On the whole, this was a funny movie with lots of flaws. Many scenes were just unreasonable. The acting was decent for the most part. Akshay, Ritesh, Lara, Arjun, and Boman were good as usual, but the younger actresses were iffy. Deepika definitely acted better here than she did before. Her face actually showed expressions for once! She even looked better in most scenes. She did overact in many scenes, but it was better than the incredible underacting she had been ding up until this point.

Now the following contains spoilers.
When Akshay Kumar goes to London to stay with Ritesh and Lara, they introduce him to their boss, Randhir Kapoor, who decides that he will have his daughter (Jiah Khan) married to Akshay. Akshay and Jiah both agree t this, and get married. They go to Italy for their honeymoon, where Akshay finds out that Jiah has a boyfriend. First off, who gets his daughter married off just like that? And secondly, after Akshay finds out, he says it's okay?!?! I will say though that Jiah Khan looked a lot better here than she did in Ghajini (I didn't dare or care to watch Nishabd). Her role was really small, but after the whole her having a boyfriend and Akshay having a girlfriend (Deepika), Akshay and her met up like friends, which was totally weird.
Deepika initially slapped Akshay for trying to kiss her while she was performing CPR, but when she found out his wife was dead (a lie by the owner of the hotel in Italy), she felt bad for him and went out with him.
Arjun Rampal plays the head of Indian Military Intelligence, and yet cannot tell that a novice liar is lying straight to his face. Doesn't sound too right. Especially considering this novice liar has horrible luck...
The laughing gas scene at the end was not needed. It was an attempt to bring some humor by using the comedy icons Santa-Banta, but it yielded few laughs (for the viewers).

But apart from the nonsensical scenes, the movie was very enjoyable. I laughed out loud on more than one occasion. For example, the Dostana scenes were pretty funny, and although they have been done too many times, they were very Kantaben-like. In fact, Kantaben was Gujju, and so was Boman Irani (the man who "witnessed" these "Dostana" scenes). Many other scenes were too!

I'd say that if you enjoyed Heyy Babyy and Kabakht Ishq type nonsensical comedies or if you are in the mood for not using your mind and just relaxing, check this one out.

Housefull is a movie coming out this Friday, starring Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Ritesh Deshmukh, Boman Irani, Lara Dutta, Jiah Khan, and Deepika Padukone. Personally, I think the guys are awesome! Ritesh definitely worked out for this movie and Arjun and Akshay are always good looking.

Illegal downloaders of Housefull, beware!
Thinking of downloading Housefull from the internet for a free view? Beware! Director Sajid Khan says he has used an anti-piracy software to make sure there are no illegal downloads of the film.

Sajid said that Housefull has used an anti-piracy and corruption software called Republique to avoid illegal downloading on the Internet.

"If anyone tries downloading it, not only will the files get corrupted but their IP address too will pop up and they will be prosecuted with all charges against them as per the anti-piracy law," he said.

"We even have a call centre in Mumbai with 35 people on board monitoring the illegal downloading of the film. We've tested the process too and it worked wonders in five seconds," he added.

Sajid was here at the DT Cinemas, DLF Promenade Tuesday evening to promote Housefull. Also present with him was the star cast of the movie including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, Deepika Padukone and Jiah Khan.

Lara Dutta who also plays a pivotal role in the movie did not make it to the event. Releasing Friday, the movie has been produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

Pyaar Impossible Review

I don't know about you, but I was pretty sure Pyaar Impossible would be horrible and completely pathetic. Surprisingly though, the Chopras seemed to pull together a decent film. Priyanka Chopra did overact (as usual), and Uday Chopra was not fantastic, but they were not bad. The popular girl in college role definitely suited PC, and UC also seemed fit for his role as the not-so-handsome geek. The songs were not worth watching for me, but they did make top 10 countdowns, so to each his/her own.
One thing that got me was the 6-year old daughter. No 6 year old is intelligent enough to be able to threaten a grown man to call the cops and manipulate them into finding this innocent man guilty of something, and no 6 year old is as mentally mature as her. I guess I'll just give them the benefit of the doubt and say the child was gifted.
Oh, just something random I remembered: PC said the phrase "You know how it is" way too many times in the movie, so that started getting a bit annoying. Did anyone else notice that?
Anyways, Dino Morea was a pleasant surprise in the movie. I was unaware that he was in it (or had just forgotten), so I got excited to see him. He acted as he usually does these days, which is not bad. He's come a long way from his Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi days.
As for the plot, it was nothing very original, but it was played out nicely. Uday Chopra is a geek in college who is in love with the most popular girl, Priyanka Chopra. He never tells her, and in fact, she is oblivious to his existence altogether. After college, he spends 7 years developing a new software, which Dino Morea, pretending to be a businessman interested in buying the software, steals from Uday. Once Uday finds out, he goes to Singapore to hunt down Dino Morea, as per advice from Uday's father, Anupam Kher. Once in Singapore, Uday tries to find the executive of the company that allegedly employed Dino Morea, but instead of Dino, he comes across Priyanka. He goes to her house to talk to her about the software and how it was stolen by her company, but she mistakes him for a nanny sent to take care of her daughter and house. The story basically kicks off from there.
Overall, the movie was not fantastic or amazing, but it was a good timepass. If you have nothing better to do, go ahead and watch this movie. It's probably not as bad as you think.

I was hoping this would be a good movie, since I had been looking forward to it for a while. I think I saw the trailers originally over a year ago, and it has just been in productions for way too long. I was expecting a Taare Zameen Par type story, but with a twist, but it was completely different. The story was about this school in which, in order to raise funds as dictated by the management, students were forced to pay higher tuition, participate in events for publicity, etc. Unfortunately though, there were many things that did not make sense.

The following contains spoilers, so if you really want to save the surprise, don't read this post any further. Shahid Kapoor's character was a new teacher at the school, and yet he was the most vocal of all the teachers about his views. Usually someone that new to a team is not given that much power from the get go. In the movie, he is an English teacher, but the principal wanted him to be a music teacher as well, but he declined. As far as I recall, there was maybe one scene in which he was teaching English, but lots of footage of him as a music teacher. There was a school girl who was infatuated with Shahid's character. That was such a pointless story, and I guess the director must have felt so as well, because that story was just left incomplete. The girl was just staring at him and got a gift for him (which they never showed her giving him). Her guy friend had a thing for her, which could only be seen briefly in a song. There was another boy who liked a girl whose brother told him to back off once in the movie, and nothing progressed there either. Ayesha Takia seemed way too happy for the movie. I really like her cuteness, but she must have been really happy about her wedding and that happiness showed too much in the movie.

Overall, I was expecting more from Shahid. He started doing so well in the middle, and I really liked Dil Bole Hadippa and Kaminey (to some extent), but he's going downhill with movies like Chance Pe Dance (boring!!!) and Pathshaala (slow and somewhat nonsensical). I hope Milenge Milenge is good, because I want to see him go back up. Ayesha Takia is adorable, and she should stick to more bubbly roles without much seriousness, although I'm sure if she tries a bit she'll get that as well.

Although I cannot give a full review right now, I would like to give a shout-out to 3 Idiots. That movie was amazing!!! It had elements very similar to Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and just like that movie, this one was wonderful. Acting was fantastic and direction was phenomenal. Kareena was gorgeous and fit the role perfectly. Aamir was awesome as usual. Sharman Joshi and Madhavan acted really well, and Boman Irani was, as usual, a pleasure to watch. He makes the perfect "villain with a heart of gold." Personally I didn't like the songs before I saw the movie, but now I absolutely love them. Even the primarily background song Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh was beautiful. All in all, great movie, full paisa vasool, much better than Avatar (sooo overrated), and just a very very good movie!

Dil Bole Hadippa is a movie starring Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee. I had been looking forward to watching this movie since I saw the promos (you can probably find my previous post on the blog!) and when it finally came out I just had to see it. I saw it a bit late considering it came out last Friday, but I thought I'd post my review anyway. So the movie was, as expected, a mix of She's The Man, Lagaan, and Chak De! India. There was much more in the movie than just these three movies, but these were the standout ones. The story was about a girl (Rani Mukherjee), the best cricket player in her village, who wants to play for India alongside the legendary Sachin Tendulkar as an opening batsman. The story is also about a man (Shahid Kapoor) who lives in England with his mother and is one of the best cricket players there. His father (parents are separated) in India asks him to help coach/be the captain of the cricket team for the bi-annual cricket match against Pakistan. Shahid agrees to do so and holds tryouts for the team. Rani goes to try out but is not allowed inside. She gets the idea of dressing as a man to try out from her chacha's (uncle's) drama company. So she tries out and makes the team. Shahid meets Rani the girl and falls in love with her as Rani the man works out for the team. What happens is Dil Bole Hadippa!

I thought the movie was very good. I loved it. Shahid is getting better with every movie and Rani was just superb. The way she played the character of Veer (the man version of her female role Veera) was amazing and I give her full props for that. It was difficult for me to imagine any other actress doing the things she did. Yeah this has been done before by others and they have all done well also, but the life that Rani's character had with the full Punjabi accent and her expressions was unbeatable. Shahid looked amazing and his actiing was really good too. From around Jab We Met, Shahid has become more manly as opposed to the childish boy he looked like earlier. I really liked his character in Dil Bole Hadippa.

The final match was very Lagaan style. It was very gripping and dramatic. Some calls were the same as in Lagaan, but it was still fun to watch. The goood thing about this was that after he found out that Veer was Veera, he didn't spend an hour debating over her character and whether or not he loves her.

Anupam Kher played Shahid's father and he is always a pleasure to watch. Dalip Tahil played the Pakistani team coach and was also awesome as usual. It was a pleasant surprise to see Poonam Dhillon again. I have seen a lot of her movies from the 80s and she is awesome. It was like seeing Neetu Singh in Love Aaj Kal, which was the best part of the movie! I won't rag Love Aaj Kal too much here, but yeah...Poonam Dhillon played Shahid's mom, and although the role was very small, I appreciated her being there. Rakhi Sawant was also in the movie. Rakhi Sawant has a pretty bad reputation and her roles often require her to wear skimpy clothes. In this movie, the Bhangra bistar song was the only time where her blouse was small, but that's what everyone wears nowadays anyways, so it wasn't out of the ordinary. her role was also very small. Sherlyn Chopra played the role of Soniya, an ex-Miss Chandigarh who turned into a modern girl after modelling in London. She had an interest in Shahid, but he didn't really return the affection.

So the movie overall was very entertaining. There was a lot of humor and I was cracking up watching it. I love that scene with the black bhains log in the truck that they show in the promos. Also, there was a scene where they combine Heer Ranjha, DDLJ, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun...!, and a line from Maine Pyar Kiya. That scene was super entertaining, but it's possible I enjoyed it just because I knew which movies they were alluding to. The songs in the movie were pretty good. I didn't forward any because either the song was nice or Shahid's dancing in it was nice.

Overall, I think the movie is worth watching. It is a total entertainer and I personally enjoyed it very much!

In an exclusive interview to NDTV, actor Salman Khan for the first time gives his version of events on what happened in the infamous Jodhpur Black Buck Hunting case. The actor says he and other actors like Saif Ali Khan actually helped a deer cub. Salman Khan also spoke on how he felt the whole 26/11 attacks were blown out of proportion, because the attacks involved the ‘rich and famous’. Salman also denied he had ever raised his hand against Aishwarya Rai during their relationship.
Excerpts from the interview are enclosed below:
On Jodhpur Black Buck Hunting case-You are the only one still in that case. What happened?
Salman Khan- You know there were times when I think this is from where it has come from. One day after pack up we were driving by…there were all of us…there was Saif, Tabu and Sonali and we saw a deer cub. It was stuck in the bush. The whole herd was there so I stopped the car and it was petrified. I took him out from there and gave him some water. You know he was there sitting with us. He was scared…. he ate a biscuit and went back. So that is something that happened… so I think from there this whole thing came.
On 26/ 11-
Why didn’t you speak out after 26/11? We saw a whole series of actors coming out and speaking at that point. Even after the Gujarat riots Aamir Khan came out.
Salman Khan--I wasn’t here. I was in Greece and I came back 15 days after that.
Do you think your speaking was relevant? You should have spoken?
Salman Khan- 26/11 because it was Taj and Oberoi was under threat. What about all those trains and buses that have been blown up. Tab toh kissi ne kuchch bola nahi…None stood up at that point of time and I have been talking from that time. Suddenly the rich and famous got up because they were threatened. Normal person bola yaar it’s very sad but yahan everybody stood up and made very bold statements.
On Aishwarya-
You were actually accused of violence. I mean that was a big story in all the film magazines at that time. Have you ever raised your hand against any woman?
Salman Khan: Obviously in a fight, I am going to be angry. I am going to go for whack and I want to give it my best shot. I don’t think that she would have survived it. So no it’s not true and I don’t know for what reason that was said, but let it go.

Dance Battle

Hrithik and Shahid are, in my opinion, the best dancers of their generation in Bollywood. I would ove to see a dance off in a movie or in reality between these two heartthrobs. Also, the Hrithik clones as I like to call them because they all look very similar (Neil Nitin Mukesh and Harman Baweja) are also really good dancers. They should get in the dance battle too. That would be totally fun to watch!!!

A very happy 57th birthday to one of the best actors Bollywood has seen. Making his lead debut with Bobby (he was also in Mera Naam Joker as a child artist), he has made his mark in the film industry delivering many superhit movies, a lot of which can be found on my favorites list at the bottom of the blog. He has been in several scandaous movies as well, such as Bobby, Saagar, and other movies. I have seen many of is movies in the past couple of years and from the movies I have seen, he is probably the man who kissed the most women on screen...if the kiss wasn't explicitly shown, it was implied in a LOT of is movies. Anyways, hopefully you know who I'm talking about by now...Yupp it's the one and only RISHI KAPOOR!!!

Well, according to sources, Saif plays the protagonist, Agent Vinod, and Kareena’s character works for the villains. Now it is up to Agent Vinod to find out whether she is a “gangster’s moll” or a simple girl who is a victim of terrible circumstances and if she is trying to help him or is deceiving him. The Agent Vinod character is said to be modeled after popular fiction characters like James Bond 007, Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer. Saif, the producer of the film, was keen to cast Bebo in a powerful role. In fact, in some media reports, Kareena has admitted that her role is “shocking” and she is likely to do an Indian Mata Hari in the film. Further sources add that Kareena is not “paired romantically with Saif”. Now, that’s unexpected, as there is a lot of buzz related to their hot, steamy scenes in the flick. Are they going to disappoint us?

If Indian officials stopped, say, Tom Hanks at the New Delhi airport and grilled him for an hour or two because of national security concerns, Americans might find it ridiculous and outrageous. Which is just how Indians feel about the detention and questioning at Newark Airport of Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, who was on his way to Chicago for an Indian Independence Day parade.
Searches on Khan—or SRK as he is familiarly known—increased 800% on Saturday, and the Buzz filled with articles about the contretemps. The story is front page news in India, sitting atop the Yahoo! India home page much of Sunday and meriting several above-the-fold articles and an online forum titled "Is the U.S. unduly harsh to those with Muslim names?" in The Times of India. Headlines from Indian news accounts include "My name is Khan? Too bad. SRK feels the heat of American paranoia," "I was harassed for no reason: SRK,"and "I don't feel like stepping into the US again, says King Khan." Meanwhile, the actor's fans protested what some characterize as humiliating treatment by burning a U.S. flag, and an Indian cabinet minister suggested subjecting visiting Americans to reciprocally inconvenient treatment.
For its part, US Customs says Khan was detained only 66 minutes, which lasted that long only because he and his luggage didn't arrive on the same flight. After initially expressing outrage, Khan—who recently finished shooting a film about, ironically, an Indian victim of racial profiling in the U.S.—said of the incident, "I think it's a procedure that needs to be followed, but an unfortunate procedure."

I do feel bad about anybody with a Muslim name being detained, like in the case of the unfortunate incident with SRK, but why is there so much of noise around it? What if it was a regular unknown person, would anyone be fretting like this? Let's face it, he is not like a national hero or something, he is just a film actor who gets famous because we make him famous, he is what he is today because of us, and of course a bit of luck too...I think Indian people should calm down and just think of it from American immigration's perspective. They don't have anything against SRK but they are cautious against terrorism and trying to protect their country. Us Indians would have done the same thing. Don't we have restrictions against some of our neighboring countries? Cool it guys, its not that he was put behind bars unreasonably. If Immigration folks feel they need to question someone, I think they have every right to be cautious.

The Incomplete Dus

In 1997, a movie called Dus was being made. Unfortunately, the director, Mukul S. Anand, passed away during the direction. The producer tried to continue with another director, but the movie was Anand's project, and thus was never completed. In my opinion, this movie would have been really really good, and I wish it had been released. The cast is rocking, and it's really upsetting that the movie was left almost half-way through.

Information about Mukul S. Anand:

Mukul S. Anand made his debut as a director with the suspense thriller Kanoon Kya Karega (1984) which was inspired by the Hollywood film Cape Fear. He then directed Aitbaar (1985) which was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's classic Dial M for Murder. The film which first brought him recognition was the epic film Sultanat(1986), a film which brought together real-life father and son Dharmendra and Sunny Deol and introduced actress Juhi Chawla.

He then directed a few other films which did not do well until he won acclaim for the Scarface-inspired crime thriller Agneepath (1990) with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role which won Amitabh a National Award for Best Actor. His next notable film was the family drama Hum (1991) also with Bachchan in the lead which was a huge success. He worked with Bachchan again for the final time in the epic film Khuda Gawah (1992) which won him the Filmfare Best Director Award. His last completed film was Trimurti (1995) which had a multi starcast including Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan but failed to do well at the box office becoming one of his biggest flops. The last film he was working on at the time of his death was the much-hyped action adventure film Dus which remained incomplete and unreleased after his death although the film's music did end up releasing.

Premise

The storyline was intended to have been about terrorism and how an anti-terrorist intelligence officer Captain Raja Sethi (Sanjay Dutt) who is part of a secret organisation known as Force 10 is sent on a mission to find an Afghan terrorist named Nasheman (Raveena Tandon in her first negative role). After he is captured and tortured by Nasheman and her right hand man Mast Gul (Rahul Dev), his partner Captain Jeet Sharma (Salman Khan) is sent to rescue him. However by now Raja Sethi is brainwashed by Mast Gul in believing his country and his friends has abandoned him and he too turns to terrorism. He also develops a love hate relationship with Nasheman. Shilpa Shetty played Salman's love interest and a journalist covering the story of the mission. Vinod Khanna played an army general.

Production and Abandonment

The shooting of the film began in Utah. The scenes in Utah were to have depicted scenes of Kashmir which was the major setting of the film. The action scenes leading up to the climax were the first scenes being shot form May to August 1997. The scenes that were filmed included Captain Raja Sethi (Sanjay Dutt) and Captain Jeet Sharma (Salman Khan) rescuing the prime minister of Pakistan from an assassination attempt by Mast Gul (Rahul Dev).

40% of the shooting had been completed by August 1997 and when Mukul S. Anand suddenly died on September 7 1997, the film was abandoned never to be completed or released. However some promo videos and clips of the film can be seen on Mukul S. Anand's official website as well as other information about the film's production, the screenplay and the music.

Soundtrack

The music of this film was composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy who made their debut as music directors with this film. Although the film was never released, the album was released while the film was still in production. There were seven songs composed for the film which were:

While shooting at Bandra for Boney Kapoor's Wanted Salman's eyes fell upon a beggar who was lying on the street. He walked down the memory lane and recognized the person, he is the same man from whom he used to buy kites as a young.

Salman’s heart fall for the man, he went to him and asked whether he is the same man. The beggar was shocked to be recognized by the biggest Bollywood star. Salman Khan not only gave him a cash of Rs 25000 but also offered him clothes and food. The beggar was overjoyed to be recognized by him and thanked Salman for his gestures of generosity.

Salman might be called the bad boy of Bollywood but he is always ready to help the poor.

Shahid Kapoor in Kaminey

The female fans of Shahid Kapur are not done having an eyeful of the actor’s well-sculpted torso in the promos of the upcoming film Kaminey. The actor’s waxed chest, his bulging abs, his biceps and those finely-shaped collar bones flanking his graceful neck, gives Shahid an almost Adonis kind of look. The girls obviously are swooning over him.

Since behind every beautiful thing there’s some kind of pain (as says an American singer), getting that perfect body wasn’t a cakewalk for Shahid.

Speaking about the shirtless scene, Shahid told a news agency: “This scene was Vishal's vision... he told me he had a scene where he wanted me running with the horses. Since, this was to be a topless scene, it took me nearly a year of following a strict diet and exercise routine to build my body to give it a sprinter's look.”

The movie has the 28-year-old actor playing a double role as two brothers, Guddu, who stammers, and Charlie, who lisps.

“Charlie's character needed to pronounce 'fa' in place of 'sa'. So, in every dialogue, every scene whether it was emotional, comedy or action, I had to maintain that speech defect and still talk like I had been talking like this forever. Guddu's Character stammered so it was very difficult to get into that state of mind of stammering each time,” Shahid said.

Slated for release on Friday, the film stars Priyanka Chopra and Amole Gupte.

Kaminey Got "A" Rating

Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra starrer ‘Kaminey’ is about to hit the theatre on August 14 and director Vishal Bharadwaj is upset and disappointed for getting “A” certificate from the Censor Board for Film Certification (CBFC).

"It was injustice to us. There is no abusive language used in the film and the violence is of 'comic book kind'.

Kaminey is the strongest word used in the entire story. The CBFC has ambiguous categories of rating systems," the director said.

"There is a line in the film where a character is asked where does he come from. The character says Pilibhit. There were no political overtones to the line. But, the Censor Board asked me to edit Pilibhit saying that it is a sensitive constituency," Bharadwaj said.

On getting objection for using the particular name of place, Vishal had changed the city name form Pilibhit to Barabanki.

Vishal who is known to make realistic cinema like Maqbool and Omkara is quite depressed with the decision of the board.

"I consider film making as a work of art rather than a business proposition," he said adding in Kaminey he had tried a new structure of story telling. The filmmaker can surprise the audience with logic," he added.

A rather low profile Rekha, who has been quietly penning down the memories of the last fifty glorious years, is now intending to make a film about the same.

According to reports, the diva, who was till now reportedly writing an autobiography, is now contemplating a full fledged film on her memorable life.

Confirming the same in a recent statement, she said, “Yes, I have been picking up the pieces of my life from the memories of the past. I have been carefully going back in time to identify every person who has shaped my life and made me realise that I am a product of love. The most important person, of course, is my mother, who couldn`t have given me more love. I want to share the experiences of my life and want to thank all those people who made me who I am today. What I am doing cannot be expressed in such few words. I want to express my gratitude with visuals as well as with words. Though I feel no words are enough to describe the people who have influenced and shaped my life, yet I will take a shot at it.”

Though not much has been divulged about the same but the movie can be anticipated as a revelation of sorts, thanks to controversial life the former leading lady has led. “I am working towards making a formal announcement on the project very soon. I think I should be ready with my final plans in a couple of months”, adds the actress.

Sister Concern!

In the film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Dev Anand launched Aman in his film as his sister who sizzled and was labeled a siren for decades to come. The portrayal of brother-sister in films has come a long way. Today, the sister’s image has changed in Bollywood from the demure, to-be-protected lil one to a sexy, with-a-mind-of-her-own individual.

This Raksha Bandhan, we examine what's changed for brother sister duos in movies. From Nanda who played the sweet devoted sister to her three over protective brothers in Choti Behen to Neelam in Hum Saath Saath Hai, Bollywood has come a long way where the sibling relationship is concerned. New age films are reworking the dynamics shared by siblings. The sweet, patiently understanding sister of Gol Maal has been replaced by the sassy, girl-about-town in B-town.

Today, it's more about being a good friend to a brother. Abbas Tyrewala, the director of Jaane Tu Ya Janne Na says, “The relationship between Genelia and Prateik was conceptualized in such a way that they would not fall into the normal category of a brother-sister. The film was as much about the relationship that was shared by Genelia and Imran as it was about Genelia and Prateik.”

According to Tyrewala, the relationship between a brother and sister in Bollywood has been over used in mostly hackneyed plots. “In
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, the brother is concerned about his sister’s welfare, but in a more subtle tone. It's a departure from past movies where the brother screams and vows vengeance because of his sister’s rape/murder/distress.

The film it also explores the mind of the sister as she grows to learn about the goodness of her brother even, all the while maintaining her own identity,” points out Tyrewala.

A film that was markedly different from the stereotype brother sister film was Josh. Although it didn’t burn up the BO, it made decent returns. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played the sultry twin sister to
a brash Shah Rukh Khan. However, the film entirely veered around Ash and SRK with their respective love lives almost as a sub plot in the film. What is interesting to know here is that director Mansoor Khan was discouraged to cast this duo as a brother sister onscreen.

Says Sharad Kapoor, who played SRK’s rival in the film Josh, “Both Ash and SRK were wonderful together. Their chemistry could absolutely be felt. Even while we were shooting, they would think of pranks and jokes on the sets, practically teaming up together to pull other people’s legs. I guess that spirit got carried over into the film."

The character of the sister in Hindi films has mostly got a raw deal. At the most, she is doled out a few scenes in which she has to alternate between fawning over her dashing brother(s), and cracking silly jokes at him/them. The high point of her existence is tying a rakhi around her brother’s wrist, which underlines her dependence on him. And if she is lucky enough, she also gets to have a rakhi song with them.

But look up My Brother Nikhil and one would realize that Bollywood has stepped into new terra firma. Director Onir portrayed a genuinely close and affectionate bond between brother Sanjay Suri and his sister Juhi Chawla.

From sipping their first glasses of wine together, theis adorable pair even secretly smoked their first cigarettes together in the film. Moreover, rather unusually, brother Sanjay depended on sister Juhi, more than she did on him.

Juhi Chawla’s role in the film was one of a saviour where she campaigned for her HiV+ brother to give him the respect that he deserved. A poignant film, it is believed director Onir dedicated it to his own sister. Onir adds, “I wanted to make a film on the relationship shared between a brother and sister. It’s the most unique relationship between a man and a woman without any kind of give and take.

A sister goes out of her way for her brother because she feels for him. She wants him to be happy without any kind of expectations attached to her emotions.”

Another film, which had the brother-sister relationship at its core was Khalid Mohamed’s Fiza. The film explores the 1993 Mumbai riots, and communal tensions, through the eyes of Fiza played by Karisma Kapoor who was in search of her brother, Amaan (Hrithik Roshan) who vanished during the riots. Mohamed depicted a deeply caring relationship between elder sister, Fiza, and younger brother, Amaan, without resorting to any honour-saving stereotypes.

Says film critic Amod Mehta, “Bollywood is slowly, but surely coming around and realising the role of the sister in films. Today it's more about the characters and the script than about rehashing the same old formula.Most film makers want to experiment with various concepts and ideas and don’t shy away from taking up off beat topics. Initially, when the audiences were still getting familiarized with the world of Hindi cinema, the movies used to be a blown up version of real life. It depicted what the society was in that era. However, now women too have undergone a change. They are independent, audacious, career women even as they balance out their roles as mothers, daughters, sisters and wives efficiently.”

In the Hindi film industry, the number of sisters landing up at a star’s place during Raksha Bandhan has always varied according to his box office rating.

Dharmendra, the heartthrob of the 1970s, incongruously collected as many sisters as giddy female fans on his way to stardom. When the good-looking man from Haryana arrived in Mumbai, his only relatives were hope and grit.

Women used the rakhi to get closer to him. Today, the 73-year-old actor has graduated to a ‘paji’ (elder brother) to three quarters of the industry. Shashi Kapoor, the endearing flirt of the 1970s, also wore the most rakhis on his wrist on Raksha Bandhan.

Karisma and Kareena don’t tie their cousin Ranbir a rakhi, but they share a warm camaraderie with him. Chunky Panday jokes, “I used to hide on Raksha Bandhan day because I didn’t want attractive heroines to tie me a rakhi.”

For Priyanka Chopra, her brother Siddharth is the apple of her eye. “I constantly look for his approval on most matters,” says didi Priyanka. “He is not only my kid brother, he is also a close friend.”

Sisters like Mallika Sherawat and Manisha Koirala have gone out of their way to extend unconditional support to their brothers Vikram and Siddharth. While Vikram manages Mallika’s career and is a producer, Manisha has supported her brother’s decision to be an actor.

Clearly, in this industry, the brother-sister bond and its traditional ties are reversible. Punam Sinha, wife of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who has been tying Subhash Ghai a rakhi for many years now, should know. Ever since Ghai stopped working with Sinha, the duo share a terse relationship. “Sinha often takes witty potshots at his saala (wife’s brother) Ghai,” says an industry insider.

However, Ghai says, “I’m extremely fond of the Sinhas and despite all our ‘differences’, we share a warm relationship. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photograph of Punam tying me a rakhi in my albums. We have maintained the sanctity of the relationship and I didn’t think the media would one day ask me about it.”

Singing sisters Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle have the highest number and the most popular of film personalities on their list of rakhi brothers. India’s Nightingale tied a rakhi to the late Sunil Dutt and Tamil superstar Sivaji Ganesan. Lata, who is currently in London, usually ties a rakhi to Yash Chopra and also thinks of Dilip Kumar as her brother.

Then there are others who use the rakhi as a tool to further their careers. The rakhi bond is also used to lay to rest rumours. Heroines have assuaged the fears of their co-stars’ wives with the line — ‘He’s like my brother’.

The old Indian habit of adding a prefix of relationship to a familiar name does not necessarily stop at a brother. The general impression is that Govinda’s wife Sunita ties David Dhawan a rakhi. But she says, “He is like a father-figure to me.”

According to Sunita, she respects him as much as her dad. A trade insider confirms that Dhawan feels so strongly for Sunita and the kids that he has taken it upon himself to resurrect Govinda’s career.

This post is a bit nostalgic. One of the best directors in Bollywood history has to be Hrishikesh Mukherjee (1922-2006). He started out as a math and science professor, but then moved on to directing some of the best movies in history. His movies Anand and Khubsoorat won best movie of the year at the Filmfares and his film Anuradha won best film at the National Film Awards. Khubsoorat is one of the classic comedies for Hindi cinema, but I have not had the pleasure of watching it yet. When I get the chance to do so, I will post a review of it for sure. My personal favorites of his are Chupke Chupke and Gol Maal. These are two of the best comedies in Bollywood. Some of the supporting cast is the same in the two hilarious films. Chupke Chupke, starring Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Badhuri (Bachchan), Om Prakash, David, and Asrani. If the cast does not speak for itself, let me just say that this movie is too good. It is about a man trying to outsmart his wife's brother-in-law (jijaji). The other movie, Gol Maal, has a cast of Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt, Bindiya Goswami, David, Manju Singh, and Dina Pathak. This movie is about a man who pretends to be his own twin to keep his well paying job where he works under a very strict and proud boss. Both these movies start out a bit slow but pick up super speed as the movie progresses. I have seen them multiple times and they are definitely on my favorites list. Next time you are bored and need a really good hearty laugh, check out Hrishikesh Mujherjee's movies.

Luck, starring Sanjay Dutt, Danny Denzongpa, Imran Khan, Mithun Chakraborthy, and Ravi Kissen, and introducing Shruti Haasan (daughter of Kamal Haasan and Sarika) was actually a pretty good movie. Just from watching the trailers, you kind of have a pretty good idea of the kind of story the movie will have, and in the first half hour or so you kind of know who will survive. Now the movie got pretty average and maybe even below average reviews, and when I went to the theater, not that many people were there to watch it. This was kind of a let down and kind of a surprise because I was super excited to watch a movie that doesn't just have a stupid love story with a crappy "comedy" or "creative" story around it like some of the other movies these days. The love stories were better in the 1900s, but now they mostly suck, so Luck was a nice alternative. The story is basically about testing luck and sort of like an extended version of Fear Factor with some Bollywood masala. There are quite a few stunts and they are actually very well done stunts. The one in which they have to find the key for their handcuffs was the most intense one in my opinion, and when you watch it, you'll see why. In the movie, a group of about 15 people is assembled from around the world and they are put through death-defying stunts for 20 days with the incentive of getting back their passports and earning Rs. 20 crores. Some of the people are there for the fun, while others are their so they can earn money for their respective problems. It may be possible that a certain one of those people has a different motive though. This "game" is run by Sanjay Dutt and his right hand man Danny Denzongpa. People worldwide can see what happens to the "players" during the stunts and all via the internet and can put money on the contestants they think will survive the 20 days. This is how Sanjay and Danny's characters make money. So that's the story of the movie. There is a side story of the love story between the characters played by Imran and Shruti.

As far as the acting goes, everyone played teir part well. Most of the actors in the movie are trained actors who live up to their parts in all their movies. The newbies were Imran Khan and Shruti Haasan. Imran has done a love story and a thriller already, so this movie was not bad at all for him. He did a pretty good job as Ram and I think he lived upto his part completely. Shruti was really impressive. If I didn't know this was her first movie, I wouldn't have guessed. She will probably go on and to something big because she has got a good voice and can sing, she's got a really nice figure, she's got a warm and pretty face, and she can act. She's got a lot going for her, and I hope to see her in more movies.

The stunts in the movie were performed really well. I haven't seen such good stunts in Hindi movies in a while and they don't come around very often. The movie starts out with a stunt by Sanjay Dutt and apparently he did that stunt all by himself and got Rs. 1.5 crores for that one scene. There are around 5 (give or take a stunt or two) stunts in the movie. Each one is more intense than the one before. The characters go through a lot of emotions, including pride, fear, shame, and many more, and they all show it really well.

The soundtrack is not that big. There is one song in the opening credits, two in the movie, and one song in the closing credits. The song in the opening credits is Aasma Luck Aasma and is picturized on Sanjay Dutt. The song is very average, but it kind of grows on you. The best song was Khudaya Ve, which runs through once completely in the movie and then reprises again a bit later. The other song in the movie is Aasma Luck Aasma, the female version. This song is sung by Shruti Haasan herself and I personally like it better than the male version. The closing credits song has a nice video and it starts out with Imran Khan and Shruti Haasan dancing and then shows a bit of the behind-the-scenes action for the choreography and the stunts.

Overall I really liked this movie and I would definitely rate it higher than many of the other movies that have come out recently. I would recommend this movie for sure without a doubt. Do check out Luck and leave your comments here.

Shahid Kapoor has been called a "womanizing playboy" at smashits.com and has apparently been seeing Anushka Sharma (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi) now. He was with Priyanka Chopra after his break up with Kareena, but now Shahid and Priyanka have broken up as well. They both refuse to attend Kaminey promotions because they do not want to share any publicity. Anushka and Shahid are going to go a Yash Raj movie together and have apparently been getting closer. It seems Shahid has rebounded from the break up with Priyanka already. Isn't it weird though how when Shahid was making movies with Kareena, they were together, and when they split up, their upcoming movies that were still filming got cancelled. Then Shahid was with Priyanka for Kaminey, and now Kaminey promotions are suffering. Now Shahid is with Anushka and will be doing a movie with her. Let's see if this movie gets completed, and if it does, how long will it take for Shahid and Anushka to break up?

I had never heard of this movie and only watched it because Bhagyashree was in it. There is a website I have subscribed to where I watch a lot of Hindi movies, and Maine Pyar Kiya and Janani were the only two Bhagyashree movies there. I have seen Maine Pyar Kiya and loved Bhagyashree in it, so I decided to watch Janani as well. Before watching, I had read the synopsis on IMDb. Here it is: "Rahul is the only child of a wealthy family in the toy manufacturing business, consisting of his dad, Raj, and mom, Urmila. He attends college, meets with Neha and both fall in love, get very intimate so much so that Neha gets pregnant. He then takes Neha to introduce her to his parents, who initially approve of her, but after finding out that her parents are Akansha and Tarun Awasthi, they instruct Rahul to take Neha home, and later ask him not to see Neha again. Rahul will soon find out that the young woman he has impregnated could well be his very own sister, mainly due to the (un)doing of their respective parents years ago. Watch how the two families deal with this new crisis and the impact this will have on Neha and Rahul. Written by rAjOo " After reading this synopsis, I thought the movie would be really messed up and perverted, but I couldn't believe that Bhagyashree, the Maine Pyar Kiya girl, would do such a role, so I decided to watch the movie despite the synopsis.
The beginning of the movie was really quick and the acting wasn't so great. Also, knowing the jist of the plot, it was pretty awkward to watch the scenes with Neha and Rahul (played by Sonica Handa and Vineet Raina) I wasn't really very excited for the movie at all. Bhagyashree's role didn't start until about 20-30 minutes into the movie, right before the flashback started. When Neha ran upto her calling her mom, I was like really? Bhagyashree definitely doesn't look old enough to be the mother of a girl that old. The flashback was portrayed really well and Bhagyashree definitely acted better in this movie than in Maine Pyar Kiya (not that there was really anything wrong with her acting in Maine Pyar Kiya, but it was more convincing in Janani) and looked more mature as well. She didn't really look that much older though, and definitely didn't look like the mother of two kids. I actually didn't know the movie was from 2006, which was just 3 years ago. I think she looked just as gorgeous if not more in this movie as in Maine Pyar Kiya (17 years ago). I don't really like Aman Verma much and his scenes, especially in the beginning, were not as convincing as they could have been. In some scenes though he did well. I really like Mohnish Bahl, mostly for his roles in Hum Saath Saath Hain and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun because those were positive roles. It was kind of weird seeing him with Bhagyashree in the same frame because in Maine Pyar Kiya he tried to take advantage of her and in this one he was really friendly. Vineet Raina and Sonica Handa were not good actors at all. Their dialogue delivery, especially Vineet's, seemed forced. I haven't seen Sonica in any other movie or show, but I saw Vineet in the television show Maayka as the oldest sister's husband.
Now as far as the story goes, the movie was very different. I haven't seen many movies about surrogate mothers before, and the only other one I saw was an English movie called Baby Mama and it was a pretty bad movie. The story is mostly about Bhagyashree and her journey as a mother, and she played the character really well. The movie could have been much more emotional. I was kind of expecting a stupid movie, but it was actually pretty gripping. Bhagyashree's scenes were really really nice. She brought a lot of emotion to her character and brought it to life. In Maine Pyar Kiya, some of her expressions seem forced and she often used hand gestures in order to portray some emotions, but in this movie, she had more natural feelings. In a lot of scenes, though, I was just like "Really? That would never happen.." and so there were flaws in the story. The concept was really different, but the execution could use work. The movie was almost completely in a flashback, and nothing was really accomplished throughout the movie. The ending was obvious from just reading the synopsis, but as with most Hindi movies, the journey is what makes it interesting because the end is a given. I'd say overall a decent movie.

Salman Khan Through The Years

So Salman Khan is one of the top 3 Khans that rule Bollywood. Personally the three in order of excellence from best to worst are Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan. I don't really like Salman Khan much and have never considered him my favorite actor in any way. Now, however, I am beginning to feel otherwise. I think his movies these days are not so great and he hasn't been giving any outstanding performances. I have recently been watching movies from the 80's and 90's, and Salman Khan movies from the 90's just rock.

Well first is Maine Pyar Kiya (1989, but close enough to the 90's). This super duper hit was truly fantastic. Salman Khan and Bhagyashree looked gorgeous together and I think I have seen the movie like 10 times in the last week.

The next movie of his I saw was Saajan. Again he was really really good in it. Although his acting was average in the beginning, the last half hour had really good acting on his part. Of course Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit were also really good, but in that last scene where he turns with teary eyes and smiles, and then "bahut pyaar karte hain tumko sanam" plays in the background, that brought tears to my eyes. Well done again, Salman.

Then I saw Andaz Apna Apna. Aamir and Salman were both hilarious in that movie. Everyone should watch that movie because there are very few movies that make you laugh from the very beginning to the very end. Salman was adorable and lovable in that movie and his duffer character was very well portrayed. So once again, an awesome movie from Salman.

The next movie was the super hit Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, and Salman was too good in that. Paired opposite Madhuri again in yet another Rajshri production, Salman Khan played an adorable brother-in-law in addition to his pairing with Madhuri. He handled the duality of his role beautifully to give this performance. Of course he was probably already comfortable with the cast, because he played Prem (again!!) with a lot of the same supporting cast.

Then the movie Karan Arjun came costarring SRK. This movie was not one of my favorites by any means. Actually I thought the movie was really crappy, so I won't go into any detail about that. In the 90's for Salman Khan, in my opinion (which is limited to the movies I have seen), this was his first bad movie.

Judwaa was next and starred Salman in a double role. Personally I thought the movie was very average but I still like it and watch it every time it comes on tv.

Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya is an awesome movie and I have seen that a few times as well, and again, every time it comes on tv, I watch it. I actually thought he was Arbaaz Khan's younger brother in reality during this movie and found out later that it was the other way around. The role definitely suited him and his casting opposite Kajol worked out nicely.

Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai was another great movie. Aditya Narayan was adorable and Salman Khan was a playboy...again. The character changes and Salman Khan plays it very well. The gorgeous Twinkle Khanna and talented Johnny Lever only help to bring the movie even more to life.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Jaanam Samjha Karo, Biwi No. 1, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam are next. He had a pretty small role in the first and the last here, but of course he did those well. Biwi No. 1 was not at all one of my favorite movies though, so no comment there. Hum Saath Saath Hain, another Rajshri production with the same supporting cast again...and of course another super cheesy yet pretty good movie. Of the Rajshri's, Maine Pyar Kiya was my favorite, then Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, and then Hum Saath Saath Hain, but all of them are really good and worth the watch. The cultural aspects are really nice and pleasant. Jaanam Samjha Karo (playboy role again) was good. Urmila did an awesome job opposite Salman Khan, and this was probably one of my favorite Salman Khan movies in terms of his acting.

The last two movies of Salman in which I thought he was actually good were Chal Mere Bhai and Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega. Loved him in both, and both are lovely movies as well.

Of these movies, he played the role of "Prem" and that of a playboy several times...and he has taken his shirt off in even more movies. After this time period though, Salman lost his innocent face and physique and starting gaining his gangster (gunda) look. His movies started losing the meaning and charm they had. One thing I loved about Salman was his innocent and honest look, which he lost. I hope Salman starts taking more meaningful movies again that are not based on just the modern stuff...you know what I am talking about. Heroes and Yuvvraj were good movies, but somehow I don't get the appeal from him in his current movies

Stepmom

Stepmom is an upcoming Hindi movie remake of the English movie Stepmom. The English version starred Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts for the main roles. Susan's role is now being played by Kajol and Julia's role has gone to Kareena. Kajol is the mom and Kareena is the stepmom. The original script was altered so that the two would have more on screen confrontations as opposed to the original where there was not as much on screen time for the two lead actresses. This movie will be directed by Karan Johar, and for the first time, Kareena will be experimenting a bit with her looks at the hands of designer Manish Malhotra. So this means that Kajol will be in K Jo's My Name is Khan (seemingly theme-wise a spin off of I Am Sam starring Sean Penn with a 9-11 flair) and K Jo's Stepmom. Good to see her finally coming back to the big screen.

Deepika in Love Aaj Kal

In Love Aaj Kal, there is this song where Deepika Padukone is giving Saif Ali Khan a tour of Delhi, and her outfits are just gorgeous. She's got very stylish kurtis and churidaars and they suit her so much. I personally do not really like Deepika in terms of acting or looks, but these outfits suit her so much. The movie is set to release July 31, and I may actually watch it early now just because of those beautiful and stylish outfits of hers.

Kaminey Got Delayed

The movie Kaminey, starring Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor, was supposed to come out on July 17, but it didn't. Apparently the release date has been reset for August 14. That really sucks because I was so looking forward to it. For now though I guess we will have to make do with the music and the music videos that have already been released. Check out Dhan Tana. It's a pretty catchy and lively number and I personally like it a lot. It kind of grows on you, so give it some time.

ShortKut- The Con Is On is a movie starring Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi, Chunkey Pandey, and Amrita Rao. Everyone acted well in the movie, yet the movie was disappointing. A movie with this cast had me expecting much more comedy than there actually was. The movie had a nice plot and the story was believable, but unfortunately the film was not very gripping and the script was very average. There were a few punch lines, but that's all they really were. The movie was more serious than comedy, even though it was supposed to be a comedy. Akshaye Khanna was the main lead I would say and he did an awesome job, as usual, in acting. Arshad Warsi is just too talented so he lived upto his part. Chunkey Pandey is also quite talented and Amrita Rao was also pretty good. The movie was gripping in the last half hour. The first 45 minutes went by really quickly but then the movie hit a speed breaker and just dragged for a bit. I definitely expected more comedy and better music as well. After watching movies like Vivah and all, I was sort of reluctant to see Amrita Rao in this type of clothing, but it suited her and she definitely does have a nice figure. The music was also very average. I personally don't really like the songs and some of them were randomly placed and seemed forced in. Overall the movie was so-so. It was entertaining and I would recommend you watch it, but I would not say that it is a must watch type movie.

Maine Pyar Kiya

Maine Pyar Kiya was such a huge hit and surprisingly I just saw it for the first time recently. I can't get over the honesty and innocence in the story. The movie was typical Bollywood style with the blushing girl and the running in trees and the rich guy/poor girl situation, but somehow this movie stood out from other such movies. I haven't really seen Bhagyashree in many movies so I never really knew much about her. I still don't know much about her, but I absolutely loved her in Maine Pyar Kiya. There was this innocence in both her and Salman Khan that very few people have today. Her acting seemed genuine somehow and I am definitely a fan now. She will be in the upcoming movie Red Alert - The War Within and I hope to see much more of her. Hopefully she still has that innocence. I would love to see the pair together again because they look gorgeous together, but unfortunately Salman Khan has lost the adorable innocence that was on his face back then. Regardless, I would love to see how the two look together today.

Yash Raj Films Plan To Hit Small Screens

YRF planned to create their own television channel, but right now these plans have been put on pause. Why? Well the YRF TV department wants to test out the TV venture before starting the channel and are working instead on specific television shows. There are currently four shows that YRF is working on, all for Sony Entertainment channel. There are a lot of new shows on Sony right now so YRF is also starting new shows. These shows will give YRF about Rs. 20 lacs for every episode and have demanded that there will be no executive producers from the channel overlooking the show in any way.
One such show is Rishta.com, which is a comedy about a matrimony office where couples meet. YRF is planning a grand opening for the show by getting some of the actors who have previously worked for the banner to come for cameo appearences in the show. Some such actors include SRK, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta, Uday Chopra, Tanu, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Jugal Hansraj. This show is currently set to release in October.
Looks like Ekta Kapoor has some serious competition now.

Genelia D'Souza for Yahoo

UTV Pictures is making a new movie called Yahoo under director Ken Ghosh. Originally the leads were Shahid Kapoor and Jiah Khan. Now, however, Jiah Khan has been replaced by Genelia D'Souza. Apparently Genelia has been given a makeover and her girl-next-door image is being changed to something more...bold. She will apparently be wearing skimpy outfits and do some raunchy numbers as opposed to her previous roles.

Soo Shahid Kapoor is coming in a lot of new movies with different actresses opposite him. Kaminey with PC, Dil Bole Hadippa with Rani, and now Yahoo with Genelia. Let's see how these pairs work out.

Chetan Bhagat's Hattrick

Chetan Bhagat has already had two of his novels made into movies. The first was Hello, starring Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Sharman Joshi, Isha Koppikar, Amrita Arora, Arbaaz Khan, and Katrina Kaif. This movie was an adaptation of One Night At A Call Center by Mr. Bhagat. The second movie adaptation is 3 Idiots, which will be released on Christmas and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, and Madhavan. This movie is an adaptation of Five Point Someone. Now Chetan Bhagat's latest novel, 3 Mistakes of My Life will be made into a movie. The director of Rock On, Abhishek Kapoor, will be directing this movie and he and Pubali Chaudhary and working on the screenplay with Chetan Bhagat. The producers are going to be Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Siddwani. This movie will release either at the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

Sanju Baba and Big B Back Again

So rarely do actors as fine as Sanju Baba and Big B come by in the film industry, and the two together are just fantastic. They have already been together in Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Kaante, Deewar, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Eklavya. The will again be coming together on the big screen in Sujoy Ghosh's Aladin. Apoorva Lakhia, who directed Shootout, said he is making a s=movie with a similar genre.

This movie will be based on the Khalisti Movement of 1984 in which Sikhs kept fighting under the leadership of Jagjit Singh Chauhan. Once Jagjit Singh Chauhan moved to Britain and started managing operations from there, Indira Gandhi, the prime minister at the time, ordered the killing of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, the head of the extremist group in India. Jarnail Singh was hiding in the Godlen Temple on June 3rd and the Indian Army open fired at the temple to kill him. Many innocent lives were lost and the killing is famous...or rather infamous I'd say...under the name Operation Bluestar.

Operation Bluestar is the subject of the movie. Sanju Baba will play a real character named KPS Gill, a super cop and Big B will play a sharp shooter.

I have high hopes for the acting but not so much for my chances of tolerating the movie. I spent most of Lokhandwala covering my eyes because of the gruesome scenes, and it seems like this new movie will also be like that. That's for the second one. As far as Aladin goes, I have no idea what to expect, but when it's out, I'll watch it and post a review right here for you all.

Sanjay Gadhvi, the director of superhits Dhoom and Dhoom 2 along with the thriller Kidnap and love story Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai is coming to us with another movie. This new movie, called 7 Days in Paris, will star the young and talented Imran Khan. He was also in Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na, Kidnap, and in an upcoming movie, Luck. Sanjay Gadhvi had signed Katrina Kaif for the lead female role, but due to some differences about the script and such, Katrina left the movie.

Director Sanjay Gadhvi then approached Priyanka Chopra for the role. Now Priyanka received almost all popular choice awards for best actress, so she has started getting an ego thing. She has raised prices dramatically now. When approached for this movie, PC demanded Rs. 5 crore. This blew Gadhvi's mind and PC was then thrown out of 7 Days in Paris. PC apparently felt that she would be doing a favor starring opposite Imran Khan because he is new to the industry. Now Gadhvi will be approaching Asin and Genelia D'Seuza for the role.

Okay so personally I'm surprised that Priyanka has airs already and is no longer stable on earth. I thought she would not let it get to her, but she did. It's all due to Fashion though. In no other movie has she been applauded for her acting, and now all of a sudden she thinks she is all that. I just hope she comes back smoothly and on her own soon before she gets too high, because as we all know, gravity pulls down and no matter how high you go, you will have to come back to earth.

Yes, I saw the movie, and yes, I loved it. I think the movie was very well made. The actors were definitely well chosen. In fact it seemed that the characters were somehow based around the actors to fit their persona perfectly. John played the popular college jock, and c'mon...John's physique and facial attitude totally fit that. Katrina was the cute and fun girl in college who hung with the guys, and she played the role beautifully. We don't know much about Neil Nitin Mukesh as of now since this is his first major role that people are actually going to notice him in. His previous movies were both thrillers and the genre seems to suit him very well. He has proven himself as a very good actor and has once again played wonderfully the serious role he was given. Now Katrina's role didn't have a lot of depth, but it did have a couple different sides, going from spunky college girl to loving, hopeful, and protective wife. Normally her acting is not so much acting but more charm. In this movie though she seemed to have a really nice handle on her character and presented Maya with grace and talent. John Abraham's role was probably the most versatile. This part has a spoiler, so if you don't want to spoil this, skip the yellow part. John goes from hunky college champ to someone who leads a double life- one of a cute and lovable family man and one of a cold and vindictive terrorist Neil did pretty well also with the double agent. And someone who hasn't been mentioned yet...Irfan Khan. What should I say about him? He is super talented. He does comedy, drama, and FBI/cop so skillfully and is probably an underdog in the industry.

Okay moving on to the story. If you don't want a spoiler, don't read the yellow. So the beginning of the story is mostly flashbacks to the college days, and it is a very typical bollywood college setting. Most of the scenes have been done before as other reviews have pointed out. The X-Factor was definitely there and all three of the leads had a screen presence. The love triangle was apparent without them saying anything and it was quite predictable. Then the story takes a twist and we come back to the present, which is 7 years post 9/11. We see John and Katrina's family and it is just adorable. The acting was done well, the scenery was beautiful, and the shots were appealing. We saw a lot of sights. But then we see the dark side of John Abraham. He is indeed a terrorist, created by the FBI's torturing treatment. This was a major shock to me because I just didn't see the terrorist in John. John, however, did an excellent job showing us that he was a terrorist and his expressions were awesome. The story was quite convincing for me. Many reviews have said no...not very believable and quite an overdone idea. I disagree. I think the story was played out wonderfully and the change in the characters was acted brilliantly. John and Katrina have not really been known for their acting, but they definitely changed some minds, including mine.

The movie was extremely gripping. I did not leave my chair at all and was just completely into the movie. The second half was expecially interesting with that one major shock it gives. I just wanted to know what would happen, even though I kind of already knew but didn't want to believe it. So I think it is definitely worth the watch and I loved the movie. Now my opinions are generally contrary to the common belief...I'm not into the stupid pointless masala unless there is something else in the movie. But this movie has some masala, an interesting story, and lovely music (without the superfluous random songs with dancing in exotic locations). Definitely worth your while.

Imran Khan is first on our list here. He has made his place in our hearts through his roles in Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na and Kidnap, and is now coming in Luck with Sanjay Dutt (again) and Mithun Chakraborthy. Totally psyched for this movie! The director asked Imran Khan to go on Salman Khan's show Dus Ka Dum, but IK refused because he doesn't believe that reality shows help promote a movie. I don't fully agree here, but...then again...who asked me?

Next on our list is Sallu Bhai himself. As we all know, him and SRK had a fight at Katrina's birthday bash and have been fighting since. Salman is now apparently dropping hints that he wants to befriend SRK again. He is inviting SRK's friends to Dus Ka Dum and trying to get close to SRK. He has even admitted that he would not mine working with SRK in a movie. I'd say this is a good thing because it shows that Sallu's ego is still normal and not "superstar" size. Some Bollywood news anchors have said that Sallu has to now directly take a step in the direction of friendship, but I say that SRK should do a little bit too. He thinks too highly of himself and needs to land his feet back on earth.

The third Khan for this update is Sarfaraz Khan. Know who I'm talking about? Well he's Kader Khan's son who played Aslam in Tere Naam. He is coming in three movies in the near future. One is Wanted, by Prabhu Deva. The second is Kisaan by Puneet Sira, which also stars Sohail and Arbaaz Khan, Jacky Shroff, and Diya Mirza. Sarfaraz will be playing the villain Kaku in this movie. The third movie, which I have also mentioned earlier, is Satish Kaushik's Milenge Milenge, in which Sarfaraz plays Shahid Kapoor's best friend.

Recently Released Trailers

Two new movies released their trailers recently.

The first is Dil Bole Hadippa starring Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee. The link for the trailer is at the bottom of this paragraph. It's a comedy and I can kind of see a blend of a lot of movies in this. Rani's character sort of reminds of her character in Bunty Aur Babli and the broken English is like that from Saawariya. Then Shahid's role of starting a team seems to be a blend of SRK from Chak De! India and the soccer (football) team in Goal. Then the whole girl turning into a sardarji is the whole Amanda Beins from She's the Man blended with Ritesh Deshmukh from Apna Sapna Money Money. Anyways, overall the movie seems really funny and I'm definitely looking forward to Shahid in those Punjabi dance numbers. Plus, who doesn't love cricket? Check out the trailer!

The other movie is Perfect Mismatch, starring Anubhav Anand (debut) and Nandana Sen, along with...get ready...Anupam Kher AND Boman Irani...together again!! These two men are extremely talented in my opinion and are perfect for clashing comedy roles. This is an Indo-American production, like Roadside Romeo, The Other End of the Line, and Slumdog Milionaire. It seems to be really funny until the very end of the trailer, at which point it seems to turn the movie into a drama, which in some cases is great, but in this case...I am kind of hesitant about that part. The movie is a must watch though with the comic Anupam Kher and Boman Irani together again after Khosla Ka Ghosla. Check out the trailer!

Shiney Ahuja

So Shiney Ahuja was accused of rape. His fans refuse to believe that the allegations are correct, though. Fair enough because the case hasn't been presented in court yet, and no proof has been disclosed. At the time of the arrest, Shiney Ahuja claimed he was drunk and so the police took a sample of his blood for testing. The reports aren't in yet, but Shiney's wife said that he doesn't drink or smoke. So was Shiney lying? Or does his wife just not know? Was the girl who claimed he raped her just doing this for the publicity? Who knows?

Hrithik Roshan and the Paparazzi!

Hrithik Roshan is one of the best paid actors in Bollywood. He's been making news a lot lately. First with the awards...he won quite a few best actor awards, in case you were unaware. He won best actor at Filmfare, IIFA, and Star Screen, and several other awards in other categories for Jodhaa Akbar.
Then came his alleged affair with Barbara Mori, his co-star in the upcoming movie Kites. Turns out this whole affair was a rumor!!! A total publicity stunt! I don't know about you, but I would have watched the movie regardless of the stunt...in fact knowing that this stunt was pulled I am kind of upset that the entire team would cook this up. So how do we know this is a rumor? Well, before the IIFA awards, Hrithik kissed his wife before going on stage, and a drunk friend blurted out that kissing Sussane would hurt their plan of cooking up an affair to promote the movie. Hrithik was offered a role in the remake of Agneepath that Karan Johar is planning on making. Do you remember the disaster that was the remake of Don? Well Hrithik does. He turned down the offer to work in Agneepath because he didn't want to remake a movie that originally had Amitabh Bachchan. So now our Karan is left without a Vijay for the remake...and who better to fill the spot than little Junior? That's right! Abhishekh Bachchan will be living the dream playing the character that his father originally played in Baby B's favorite movie.

Fun fact: Hrithik paid the third highest income tax (after Akshay Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan), an amount of Rs. 8 crore, last year.

Upcoming Movies

Soo I'm about to talk about Kaminey, New York, Kambakht Ishq, 3 Idiots, Love Aaj Kal, and Munna Bhai Chale Amerika...in no particular order

1. Kamineystarring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra- I am eager to see their pair because both are very good looking and even more popular. Shahid Kapoor's memorable pairs have been opposite Amrita Rao, Kareena Kapoor, and Ayesha Takia...and personally I think Priyanka and Shahid make an adorable couple. I'm totally psyched to see them sizzle on screen. Now speaking of Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia...whatever happened to Paathshaala? It just kind of disappeared with the whole war and all. I was really looking forward to that as well because their pair is one of the best I've seen...they both have that childish yet mature look and ambience. Anyways back to Kaminey. Unfortunately the trailer made the look really weird and dull...and the names Charlie and Guddu don't suit Shahid. Sweety doesn't really suit Priyanka either but we'll be seeing both of them in completely different roles. I'm excited to see how this one turns out. The last movie Vishal Bharadwaj directed was Omkara and he hasn't really had many outstanding movies...let's hope for the best.

2. New Yorkstarring Neil Nitin Mukesh, John Abraham, and Katrina Kaif- Neil Nitin Mukesh has managed to stay under the radar. Johnny Gaddaar is a movie that not very many people even know about...let alone have seen. Same with Aa Dekhen Zara. Aa Dekhen Zara came out during the war and not many theaters took it. It did poorly with sales, but Neil Nitin Mukesh still has a promising career. He has acted extremely well and I really like his selection of movies...all 3 of his movies mentioned here are thrillers/action movies. I have great hopes for him. I am soo excited to see him with John and Katrina. Both of them have matured in acting since they entered the film industry and the three make a cute set of friends. Other movies have tried to capture the post 9-11 atmosphere in America and have failed miserably. Hopefully this won't be one of those.

3. Kambakht Ishqstarring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor- This one seems like a nice...or maybe not so nice... comedy. I am sort of nervous about the chemistry and all...apparently Akshay treats Kareena like a kid sister and in the movie he makes out with her...awkward!!! Soo the story is basically a war of the sexes...who's better...man or woman? Akshay is a male shovenist basically and he is the stuntman of the year. Kareena is the supermodel of the year and completely defies what Akshay thinks a woman is good for....or that's what it seemed like to me from the trailer. I am looking forward to the special appearences by people like Sylvester Stallone because he is a complete legend when it comes to Hollywood. Overall though, I am expecting a hilarious comedy with some fun and masti. Another one I'm waiting for.

4. 3 Idiotsstarring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor, and Boman Irani- I am sooo excited for this movie. Aamir Khan always gives me something to look forward to and somehing to trule appreciate. The rest of the cast is pretty good too. I don't like Madhavan that much, but he's okay. Sharman Joshi is adorable and hilarious, and Boman Irani is just amazing. Kareena Kapoor had really grown as an actor over the years and lately has been acting pretty well. I think it's safe to say that Jab We Met was really a turning point for her in terms of acting and she has done better since that. It is writted, produced, and directed by the makers of the Munna Bhai soon-to-be trilogy, so I am expected tons of laughs. Now I'm about to say something that may disappoint thousands of people out there, but I think Shah Rukh Khan is the most overrated actor in the industry and he really does not deserve the popularity and fame he has. That's my opinion though, and many have already tried and failed to change it. Why am I talking about SRK rather than the movie now? Well SRK was originally cast for 3 Idiots and he turned it down. I am soo thankful for that. Anyways, this movie hasn't really been publicized much and as far as I know the trailer isn't out, so I can't say much more for it. All I really know right now is that this is supposed to be another Aamir Khan Christmas release.

5. Love Aaj Kalstarring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone- Saif Ali Khan has become one of my favorite actors lately. He has been doing some really different roles very well and has shown his maturity and versitality as an actor. Deepika has completely failed to impress me though. She is not really that pretty...there are many much prettier actresses in Bollywood. Her acting hasn't been amazing in the slightest and the way she talks is very unappealing. She needs to redeem herself with Love Aaj Kal because it is a role that she can relate to, which is a modern woman (for the most part in the trailer). This movie seems really funny but there was a lot of almost kissing in the trailer and I don't know how that will go over with the Indian public. Saif Ali Khan looks quite young in the trailer, as opposed to at the Filmfares earlier this year, and both seem to make a nice couple. I am not really sure how this movie will turn out, but I will defiintely watch it. It's coming out this July...as of now at least.

6. Munna Bhai Chale Amerikastarring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi- I have waited for I think over a year now for this movie to come out. The date has yet to be finalized. The movie was rumored to be discontinued and then rumored again to be recontinued so I have no idea where it stands now. This movie would complete the trilogy of Munna Bhai. When Munna Bhai MBBS came out, people had few hopes initially but came out with a WOW feeling. Lage Raho Munna Bhai was also amazing with a message and most people agreed that this defied all laws of movie series in that the second outdid the first. The trailer for Munna Bhai Chale Amerika was hilarious and got my hopes up for another movie packed with both tears and laughs. I just hope the movie still releases...and I will be sitting in the theater for the first day first show.

So those are the main movies I am looking forward to. And the honorable mention goes to...drum roll please... Milenge Milenge! Word is that Kareena has agreed to finish shooting this movie with Shahid and this movie may release. I have no idea what the movie is about, but hey...it's Kareena and Shahid, and after Jab We Met, who can deny that this pair is going to rock again?

So I just saw Kal Kissne Dekha a few days ago. Both Jackky and Vaishali acted pretty well considering this is just their first movie. Jackky was adorable and Vaishali was...well...a spoiled brat, so both lived up to their. Although many people came out disappointed that this was the first movie after the producer-theater war was over, but it was definitely worth the watch. There was romance, mild comedy, and some drama in the first half and then it transformed into sort of a thriller in the second half. Although none of the individual genres were explored too deeply, the movie definitely had a good balance. The supporting cast was AWESOME though....Rishi Kapoor, Ritesh Deshmukh, Rahul Dev, Archana Puran Singh, Satish Shah, and others. If you are debating whether or not to watch it, I'd say go for it!!
